Essex is my home county, so this is where I do most of my photography. The county has four different boundaries – the ancient county, the old postal county, the ceremonial county and the administrative county. The ancient county included areas that are now part of Cambridgeshire and the old postal county included five boroughs that are now a part of Greater London.

For my purposes, I am using the ceremonial county, thereby including Southend and Thurrock, which became unitary authorities in 1998. Before 1998 the administrative and ceremonial boundaries were coterminous. The photographs are organised into Local Authority groupings (borough, district or unitary authority) for convenience.
